Passions That Teach: From the Stadium to School Sport
When he is not on the pitch at school or in the sports hall, Mr Weston, Director of Sport, can be found behind the microphone, bringing stadiums to life as the announcer at Glasgow Warriors matches. From welcoming fans and interviewing players to hosting live events, he thrives on the energy of the crowd and the challenge of creating memorable moments.
Working in live events has strengthened his communication, confidence and ability to think on his feet. No two events are the same – and the skills required to stay calm under pressure, adapt quickly and engage an audience are ones he brings back into school sport every day.
For Mr Weston, sport is about far more than results. It is about teamwork, shared experiences and creating a sense of excitement and belonging for pupils, their families and the wider community. Whether supporting from the sidelines, travelling to fixtures or taking part in family activities, he works to make every sporting experience meaningful.
This approach reflects the department’s motto: Inspiring Lifelong Passion Through Physical Activity. Scott and his team aim to help pupils discover a part of sport that stays with them long after they leave school.
From the roar of the stadium to the buzz of the school playing fields, his experiences show that real growth comes from stepping forward and embracing new challenges.
Mr Weston’s passion beyond the classroom demonstrates the value of pursuing interests outside school. Through our Passions That Teach series, we celebrate how teachers’ interests enrich learning and embody our ethos of Teachers as Learners.
At Morrison’s Academy, we believe the best teachers are learners too – and when teachers continue to grow, pupils thrive too.
