We are delighted to announce that Morrison’s Academy has been commended in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2026 for Regional Independent School of the Year: North.

Receiving this recognition for the second consecutive year is a wonderful achievement and reflects the dedication, passion and commitment of our entire school community.

The commendation celebrates the breadth of opportunities available to pupils at Morrison’s Academy and our commitment to helping every young person thrive academically, socially and emotionally. From inspiring classroom learning and exceptional pastoral care to opportunities that build confidence, resilience and character beyond the classroom, every aspect of school life is shaped by our belief that education should prepare pupils not only for exams, but for life.

One initiative that exemplifies this approach is Across Scotland. Introduced in 2020, the programme has become a defining experience for our pupils, combining adventure, teamwork and challenge as they explore Scotland’s remarkable landscapes by foot, bike and canoe. Alongside outdoor learning from the earliest years, community partnerships, leadership opportunities and a strong culture of service, Across Scotland reflects the values that underpin a Morrison’s Academy education.

This year’s expeditions saw Secondary pupils travel from Ben Hope to Ben Lomond, while Primary pupils journeyed from the source of the River Spey to the sea. Since the programme began, pupils have completed 20 expeditions, travelled more than 7,000 kilometres and raised over £225,000 for charity. More importantly, they have developed the resilience, confidence and sense of responsibility that will stay with them long after the journey ends.

Andrew McGarva, Rector of Morrison’s Academy, said: “To be recognised once again in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards is a tremendous honour. This commendation reflects the enthusiasm of our pupils, the dedication of our staff, the support of our families and the strength of our wider school community. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to the next stage of the awards.”

Finalists will be announced on 10 September, with the winners revealed on 14 October.
