14 ADVENTUROUS PUPILS SET TO TRAVERSE SCOTLAND FOR THE ARCHIE FOUNDATION.
Following the roaring success of last year’s Across Scotland Challenge, 14 adventurous teenagers have decided to test their mettle by undertaking the second Morrison’s Academy Across Scotland Challenge.
Departing on 28 May and travelling by bike, 12 Morrison’s Academy and 2 Crieff High School pupils will cycle 550km from Southend in Kintyre to the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse on the Isle of Lewis. The pupils will visit 11 islands as they cycle up the West Coast and out to the Hebrides, raising money for the Archie Foundation in Tayside. The pupils will camp as they travel and be supported on their seven-day journey by Morrison’s Academy staff.
The pupils, all aged 13 -15 years, however are not only setting out to physically challenge themselves, they are committed to using their adventure to raise £5,000 for the Archie Foundation Tayside. The Archie Foundation exists to make the difference in healthcare and bereavement for children and their families across the north of Scotland. The Archie Foundation is entirely funded by voluntary donations and fundraising.
Colin Nicoll, Assistant Rector, Morrison’s Academy said, “This is a really tough challenge and our pupils need to be well prepared both physically and mentally. However, they will be spurred on knowing that the funds they raise will help to continue the excellent work the Archie Foundation does to support children in our local area.
Tavish, one of the S2 pupils participating in the challenge for the second year running said, “I was keen to do the Across Scotland challenge again for lots of reasons! The event was really challenging, but also really fun, and I loved being active every day. Also, Mr Nicoll’s cooking was delicious!”
Parent Laura Smart commented, “We are so proud that our daughter has taken on this challenge and I am so impressed with the commitment that she and her friends have given to this amazing opportunity and the training involved. They are going to smash it!”
Mr Nicoll went on to say, “I know that the pupils will gain so much from this experience, they will learn about themselves and their teammates as they undertake such a physical challenge.”
